Airborne Wind Energy
Airborne Wind Energy is a promising option for sustainable power generation from wind energy at higher altitudes than conventional wind turbines. In the most commonly used concept of "cross-wind flight", an aircraft (or kite) controlled by an autonomous autopilot is attached to the ground by a long rope and is moved transversely to the wind. The pull of the wind on the rope can then be used, for example, to generate electrical energy. Our research group is engaged in the field of developing open-source and low-cost flight systems. The goals of this work are to support the developing field by increasing the exchange and low-cost access to working systems, and to outreach to more working groups to spread novel technologies and tools.
