Computing room of the Department of Physics

On this page all information about the computing room of the Department of Physics is summarized. Below you find information about the new computer setup and the usage of the room in general.

Where is the room located?

The CIP pool is located at the the Allgemeines Verfügungszentrum 1 of the University of Bonn:
Allgemeines Verfügungszentrum 1 (AVZ 1)

Endenicher Alle 11-13
Raum 1.008
53115 Bonn

Phone.: +49 228 73 9403

What can the room be used for?

The pool is mainly used for exercise classes of computing-based lectures during lecture time. Additional special events can be happening as well. The room is also available for students who need special software or who own no PC.
The room is equipped with 16 workstations running Ubuntu Linux as well as teaching material like a beamer and whiteboards.

Where do I get additional information and help in case of problems?

  1. Usually around noon, a tutor is present in the CIP pool. She is there to answer your questions, and she will fix smaller problems (e.g. paper jam in the printer).
  2. In case of problems related to login or user files, please address the university computing center (http://www.hrz.uni-bonn.de/Support/der-infopunkt-des-hrz)
  3. For help with problems related to hardware or installed software, please send a mail to hep-admin@physik.uni-bonn.de specifying your problem as precise as possible

How does the pool work? Do I need an account?

The computing pool is based on Ubuntu Linux workstations. They are configured to use the Uni-ID as login which is automatically created for each student. Therefore no special account management is needed any longer. User files are stored centrally at the university computing center.
