Belle Physics

Bonn is involved in the japanese Belle II experiment. Belle II is a super-flavor factory at the SuperKEKB accelerator facility, located north of Tokyo. SuperKEKB aims to reach unprecedented beam luminosities, with which Belle II will be able to study large quantities of beauty quarks in the clean laboratory of electron-positron annihilation production. The group is involved in many different physics topics, ranging from the measurement of CKM matrix elements, searches for new physics, the study of rare processes, to determinations of the beauty quark mass.

Leptonic and Semileptonic Decays of B Mesons

Semileptonic beauty quark decays offer a clean path to measure the coupling betweeen beauty, charm and the W boson (V_cb). Similarly, the coupling between beauty, up and the W boson (V_ub) can be probed.

R(D(*)) Ratios

We are measuring the R(D^(*)) ratios with hadronically decaying tau leptons. The Belle II experiment is producing exact BB pairs and it greatly benefits from the clean experimental environment of e⁺ e^- collisions. In this study we tag one of the two B mesons using the Full Event Interpretation algorithm in fully hadronic modes, in order to kinematically constrain the second B meson. We reconstruct B → D* τ ν decays with a single charged track originating from the τ decay and two missing neutrinos. This gives us a unique access to quantities, sensitive to New Physics, such as the τ lepton polarization besides the R(D*) ratio. In this talk the reconstruction strategy, the current status and the future targets of the analysis will be presented.
