3rd quarter 2019 - First collisions in the full Belle II detector

On March 25th the first hadronic collisions in the full Belle II detector were registered. In a hadronic event in Belle II, the colliding electrons and positrons interact into an intermediate state, the so-called Y(4S) meson. This particle immediately decays into other particles, which are then registered in the Belle II detector. The figure shows such a hadronic event - the first one that could be found in 2019 with the full Belle II detector in place. The coloured points and bars indicate the signals generated by the particles when traversing the detector, and the blue lines indicate the reconstructed tracks of these particles. The PI Belle II group participated in the development of the pixel detector, and is working on data analysis as well as the track reconstruction in Belle II.
