"Wolfgang Paul - Physiker, Förderer und Mensch"

 

Herwig Schopper is professor emeritus at the University of Hamburg. His scientific interests are optics, nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, accelerator engineering and detector development. He was director of DESY for several years and Director-General of CERN from 1981 to 1988 - during the approval and construction of the Large Electron Positron collider. His distinctions include the Großes Bundesverdienstkreuz, the Tate Medal of the American Institute of Physics, the UNESCO Albert Einstein Gold Medal as well as the Niels Bohr Gold Medal.
